Stakeholder Engagement

Overview

We believe that creating shared value through our people, communities we call home, unitholders, business partners, customers and government helps to ensure the social and economic needs of future generations are met.

Our Approach

We are focused on understanding our stakeholders’ goals, perspectives, and concerns, and incorporating stakeholder feedback into our business strategies. We will continue to evolve and expand our approach to stakeholder engagement to meet the changing needs of our company and our stakeholders.

Community Engagement and Impact

We are dedicated to building and maintaining relationships in the communities where we operate. We are proud to support local and national charitable organizations and encourage employees to make a positive impact through giving and volunteerism.

Engagement Programs

  1. Building Relationships and Earning Trust

A great example of this is Marathon Pipe Line LLC’s (MPL) Earning Your Trust program. Through its industry-leading public engagement program, our wholly owned subsidiary, MPL, engages landowners, community members, schools and public officials on pipeline safety and infrastructure. The program helps MPL focus on community involvement while encouraging employees and contractors to be positive ambassadors when working with or contacting the public. Learn more about MPL's Earning Your Trust program.
  2. Community Hotlines
Neighbors of our facilities and landowners of our pipeline rights of way can contact us 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ask questions and report concerns.
  3. Charitable Contributions and Grants
We strive to make a meaningful impact in the communities in which our assets are located. We strategically focus community investments on three core areas where it can make a positive, measurable impact: workforce development, sustainability and thriving communities.

Engaging with Indigenous Communities

MPLX is committed to engaging, communicating and partnering with tribal nations and communities where we operate. We recognize that each tribe has its own unique culture, government, language and customs, and we deeply value and welcome their valuable perspectives. By working together, we aim to create opportunities for shared value. We actively seek Indigenous perspectives on safety and the preservation of cultural and environmental resources to inform our planning and execution of projects and operational activities.

Education and training for our own team members is an important part of the support our Tribal Affairs Working Group provides. We want to be sure that our employees who are engaging in these communities have an understanding of tribal history and governance, cultural dynamics, and styles of communication, and an awareness of the nature and history of our business relationships and community investment partnerships.
