Mr. Swearingen is executive vice president, Logistics and Storage of MPLX GP LLC. He chairs the board of the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), is on the midstream committee of the American Petroleum Institute (API), served as past chair of the API refining committee and a past board member of the Association of Oil Pipe Lines. Mr. Swearingen is on the Rose-Hulman chemical engineering advisory board, and is active in several charitable organizations.
Mr. Swearingen joined Marathon in 1981 as a process engineer at the Robinson refinery. After various assignments at the refinery, he transferred in 1987 to the corporate Refining staff organization to assist in capital budget development and long-range planning. From 1989 to 1992, he worked at the company’s former Indianapolis refinery, where he held several technical and operations management positions. In 1992, Mr. Swearingen transitioned to the Garyville refinery as manager of Technical Services, and in 1994 returned to the corporate Refining staff as the manager of Refining Engineering. With the formation of Marathon Ashland Petroleum1 in 1998, he was named Asset Development manager, with responsibility for capital budget development and strategic planning for the Refining organization. Mr. Swearingen became manager of the Robinson refinery in 2001, and was appointed president of Marathon Pipe Line LLC in 2009. In 2011, he was appointed vice president of Health, Environment, Safety and Security for Marathon Petroleum and was appointed senior vice president of Transportation and Logistics in 2015. Concurrently, he was named vice president, crude oil and refined products pipelines for MPLX GP LLC, and assumed his current position in 2017.
Mr. Swearingen graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1981. He completed the Wharton School Advanced Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006.
